Herding Dog Training

Graziers need trained, reliable dogs to move sheep efficiently and effectively, but most training is geared toward pet agility and show dogs. Our herding dog class is offered in response to the common question, "But HOW do you work a working dog?"

In this class

In this one-day class, students are invited to bring one herding dog each of appropriate working age. Instructor Shelia Brumley-Rios observes and works 1:1 with student-dog teams on each pair’s needs, goals and issues, shows how to teach dog herding movement and commands, and covers the importance of obedience in a working dog. Class size is limited to ensure everyone gets the 1:1 instructor time they deserve.

Shelia is an open handler who competes across the northwest U.S. in USBCHA and RESDA trials. She has trained horses for 50 years and Border Collies for 12 years, and her methods are both humane and effective.
